Returning to Work After Maternity Leave: Day 4

I'm feeling like superwoman this morning because Chloe was once again UP early and I was up at 2:00 AM and from 3:00-4:00 AM trying to soothe her back to sleep. I get back up at 6:00 AM to start the day. I am planning to go to barre class and take Chloe with. Normally Jhey watches her if I have a workout class but I decided to take her with me today.

It is just me and another woman in class so I don't feel too terribly when Chloe fusses. She only had a short nap this morning and is clearly tired but doesn't want to be left out. Charlie, the owner of the studio holds her for nearly the whole class. I've been going to Charlie's barre classes for 3 years and am so thankful for the space she provides and that she graciously let me bring Chloe.

Chloe's schedule is thrown off because she hasn't napped so by the time I get home, she is tired and hungry.

I hand her off to Jhey around noon and log on. I am planning to have another short day and use some of the hours I rolled over from last year. I have a few meetings today and need to post some social content for Servo and the Web Engines Hackfest happening in A Coruña in two weeks.

I draft socials and then take a short break before my 2 hour meeting. I'm not ashamed to admit I just laid on the floor under my desk for 10 minutes. I join the call. I will be organizing the trip for TPAC again this year, which is in Dublin, so should hopefully be a little less stressful to plan for instead of Japan but we'll see. It's at the end of October and that seems like a relatively good target for my first work trip and it's not too far.

After the meeting I log off, go downstairs and feed Chloe, have a therapy appointment and end it early because I am T-I-R-E-D.

I end up putting Chloe to bed early at 7:00 PM because she's been awake for 3.5 hours and then give her a final bottle when she stirs awake around 8:00. She falls back asleep.

I almost give in and abandon the meal plan to order takeout but don't. I make a no-cook spicy tuna salad taco mix. We watch the latest episode of The Valley.

I made it through the week, even if it was a short week. I am very tired. Perhaps I wouldn't be so tired if Chloe hadn't spent the week waking up so much between 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM but here we are.

Tomorrow is Friday. Vogue has a groom appointment and then I have nothing else planned. Pending weather and Chloe's naps, I might do some things in the garden. Saturday I'm going down to London to get tattooed as an artist I follow suddenly had flash appointments available and I caught her booking story on Instagram just in time too book.

A sigh of relief as I go to bed. It does feel refreshing to have some new layer to life. There is this new little human that makes free time even more precious. Things will get easier as time goes on, but I feel like I'm past the first hurdle of coming back to work and figuring out what life looks like now. There's still a lot to figure out, but that's okay because life is good.
