Returning to Work After Maternity Leave: Day 3

The plan for today was to work a full day and I did that. I'm only back at work part-time so this week's schedule is a bit all over the place as I figure out the flow of things.

I met with one of my colleagues, and he recapped all the projects for the Web Platform team. There is a lot going on, and it was a lot of information to process even at a high level.

Half of the year is nearly gone so many projects are in wrap up mode so I'm not entirely sure what projects I'll be taking back over.

There's a lot going on with the Servo project, and I'm part of a team focused on finding opportunities for it. The project feels even more relevant with all the AI browser focus elsewhere. The general sentiment toward AI has been glaringly negative while I've been out. Not just in my tech circles, but on Threads, where I've spent many a day scrolling, the general audience from all different areas of work is so anti-AI you will be mobbed with replies if you post pro-AI content. Most people want to be able to afford groceries, have clean drinking water and don't want America's beautiful landscape torn up for data centers to poison the land.

But I digress a bit although not really because AI discussion is everywhere. I couldn't escape it on maternity leave and I certainly wasn't delusional enough to think it wouldn't be affecting my area of work. But back to Servo.

I'm in listening mode during this meeting. It feels a little bit like I'm starting a new job again and just trying to absorb as much information as possible.

I have a few action items I write down of things to review.

I spend a little bit of time trying to get my Notion pages for my own personal tracking organized and log off for the day and take over care for Chloe. After her bedtime routine, I make a tortellini dish with pancetta and peas -- pasta was really calling my name today so I switched the meal plan around.

We watch a few episodes of season 2 of The Four Seasons on Netflix. I fall asleep, per usual and then wake back up to go to bed around 11:30 PM. Another day done.
